News just in that long-running OV Gallery has closed its doors after a lengthy and influential stint in Shanghai's art scene. Based in the M50 art district - its third location in Shanghai - OV has taken the tough decision to shut down after six years of operation.
Opened in 2008, OV Gallery has pushed the boundaries of what is acceptable in Shanghai's art scene. The gallery has showcased various exhibitions that target issues in contemporary China by using history as a reference point. It has worked with a myriad of both established and emerging artists. The gallery previously exhibited works containing sensitive topics and in 2010 was temporarily shut down by the Culture Bureau while hosting a show that examined how history was created and consumed.
While Shanghai will miss OV Gallery, a number of those involved with the space look set to move onto new projects soon - we'll keep you posted with more news once we have it.
