Singularity is a chic lounge bar in Taikang Terrace, a popular and expanding up market hub just off of the main Tianzifang stretch. It serves an impressive collection of unique and delicious craft cocktails, as well as oysters and a few great Western food options, in an exceptionally well decorated space.

The place to head if you’re in Tianzifang and looking for a glass of wine, Tai Wine is a cool and cozy modern wine bar with a huge selection of international labels and a hip, young creative clientele.

One of the longest running bars in Tianzifang, Kommune has stayed popular thanks to its cocktails, tapas style Western food and its coffee as well as the large courtyard that is perfect for al fresco drinking.

C Gourmet is an up-market restaurant in Taikang Terrace that serves Western fare in a chic setting that has a cocktail bar and rooftop terrace. Next door is an extension, C Oyster Bar, a small spot with a few outdoor seating and a large oyster bar, ideal for oyster lovers in the area and anyone who feels like a light seafood snack with their drinks.

The Plump Oyster, one the floor above Kaiba Tap House in Taikang Terrace, serves a huge selection of imported oysters as well as a selection of light Western bites. They have a great terrace, a perfect place to escape and look down at the crowds while enjoying some seriously good seafood.

Probably the key drinking spot in the Taikang Terrace development, the Tap House is perhaps the best of Kaiba’s three Shanghai outposts. It offers a large selection of genuinely excellent Belgian beers and North European comfort food in a really winning atmosphere, with terraces overlooking the winding terraces beneath.

Marina is a large restaurant that serves a wide range of cuisines. It has a huge rooftop terrace, which is one of the best in the area, with room for plenty of people and pleasantly hidden away from the area’s touristy bustle.

Bell Bar is a cozy, comfortable and friendly bar spread over three floors. The drinks are pretty cheap – especially during the 17:00 – 20:00 happy hour – and the armchairs, bookshelves and chilled out music make it one of Shanghai’s best places to simply kick back.

Andalus is a small bar and restaurant that specializes in classic Moroccan cuisine and atmosphere, which means that to complement the drinks there are plenty of tajines and various cous cous dishes as well as lots of hookahs and water pipes to sample.

Just around the corner from Tianzifang, MAO Livehouse is one of Shanghai’s oldest and most beloved live music venues, as well as probably the largest when it comes to underground music. Lots of good international bookings.

Friends酒吧 is a tiny, chilled out bar serving great cocktails and with a better than average music selection on the stereo. The mojitos are particularly popular, as is the outdoor seating.
